Are there any Contradictions in the Quran?

It isn’t new for us Christians to face questions on the authenticity of our scriptures from the Islamic world. A few of the Islamic attacks on the Holy Bible is cited below :-

http://www.kalamullah.com/Books/Deedat/Is%20The%20Bible%20Gods%
20Word%20[deedat].pdf

http://www.answering-christianity.com/ac6.htm#links

And there are many more materials over the internet from the Islamic world attacking the Holy Bible. Well, we Christians should take it as a challenge when someone confronts us in regard to our faith as what apostle Peter wrote in (1 Peter 3:15).

However, we also read in the scriptures :-

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ..” 2 Corinthians 10:5; NIV

Therefore taking this into consideration, I would like to examine the Islamic holy book, i.e the Qur’an in the light of its own criteria which it has set for itself being the God’s word. The Qur’an says :-

“Do they not then consider the Quran carefully? Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much contradictions.” Surah (4:82); Hilali-Khan

“What, do they not ponder the Koran? If it had been from other than God surely they would have found in it much inconsistency.” Surah (4:82); Arberry

So we have a very plain picture of the Qur’an’s claim to be the word of God. But does this claim really stands on being examined or analyzed ? Let us examine.

  1. The Qur’an says in Surah 2:256 :-

There is no compulsion in religion. The right direction is henceforth distinct from error. And he who rejecteth false deities and believeth in Allah hath grasped a firm handhold which will never break. Allah is Hearer, Knower.” Pickthall

Its very obvious from this ayat that Islam cannot be enforced on anyone which can be corroborated by the commentary of Ibn Khatir :-

” (There is no compulsion in religion), meaning, "Do not force anyone to become Muslim, for Islam is plain and clear, and its proofs and evidence are plain and clear. Therefore, there is no need to force anyone to embrace Islam. Rather, whoever Allah directs to Islam, opens his heart for it and enlightens his mind, will embrace Islam with certainty. Whoever Allah blinds his heart and seals his hearing and sight, then he will not benefit from being forced to embrace Islam.'' Ibn Khatir on Surah 2:256

Source :- http://www.qtafsir.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=138

Apart from this , we have one more ayah affirming the above :-

Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion.” Surah 109: 6; Pickthall

We are informed that the prophet of Islam recited this Surah when the queraish invited him for adoring their deities. Please refer to Ibn Khatir’s commentary on the same.

Hence the ayats above are very admiring or surprising   for the one who had a belief that Islam allows its followers to spread the faith on the tip of sword.

But is that the case really ? The context cited below is displaying a different story :-

” Freedom from obligation (is proclaimed) from Allah and His messenger toward those of the idolaters with whom ye made a treaty.

Travel freely in the land four months, and know that ye cannot escape Allah and that Allah will confound the disbelievers (in His Guidance).
And a proclamation from Allah and His messenger to all men on the day of the Greater Pilgrimage that Allah is free from obligation to the idolaters, and (so is) His messenger. So, if ye repent, it will be better for you; but if ye are averse, then know that ye cannot escape Allah. Give tidings (O Muhammad) of a painful doom to those who disbelieve,

Excepting those of the idolaters with whom ye (Muslims) have a treaty, and who have since abated nothing of your right nor have supported anyone against you. (As for these), fulfil their treaty to them till their term. Lo! Allah loveth those who keep their duty (unto Him).

Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

And if anyone of the idolaters seeketh thy protection (O Muhammad), then protect him so that he may hear the Word of Allah, and afterward convey him to his place of safety. That is because they are a folk who know not.” Surah 9:1-6; Pickthall

These ayats are said to be revealed when the pagans violated a treaty they had with the muslims The pagans were given a time to sell out all their possessions thereby leaving the land as a token of penalty for treaty break and if anyone of them  may be found after the completion of given time, they had to be killed.

Well its fine if they are to be behaved in this manner since its their fault as the story portrays but we have just discovered of Islam being a religion which advocates no compulsion regarding faith. And if that is the case, we are not supposed to find any inconsistency in this realm but unfortunately we read in the 5th ayah of Surah 9 :-

But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.”

It plainly assumes of a circumstance when any of the idolater when his/her life is at stake may repent, establish worship to Allah alone and pay the poor due (Zakat), he/she had to be spared from killing. Let us see the commentary of Ibn Khatir in this respect ::-

” (But if they repent and perform the Salah, and give the Zakah, then leave their way free. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.) Abu Bakr As-Siddiq used this and other honorable Ayat as proof for fighting those who refrained from paying the Zakah. These Ayat allowed fighting people unless, and until, they embrace Islam and implement its rulings and obligations.” (Ibn Khatir on 9:5)

And let us see what the prophet of Islam said this realm :-

In the Two Sahihs, it is recorded that Ibn `Umar said that the Messenger of Allah said, (I have been commanded to fight the people until they testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establish the prayer and pay the Zakah.) This honorable Ayah (9:5) was called the Ayah of the Sword, about which Ad-Dahhak bin Muzahim said, "It abrogated every agreement of peace between the Prophet and any idolator, every treaty, and every term.'' Al-`Awfi said that Ibn `Abbas commented: "No idolator had any more treaty or promise of safety ever since Surah Bara'ah was revealed. The four months, in addition to, all peace treaties conducted before Bara'ah was revealed and announced had ended by the tenth of the month of Rabi` Al-Akhir.''(Ibn Khatir 9:5)

And here comes the reference of the ahadith under consideration :-

” It has been narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, and they establish prayer, and pay Zakat and if they do it, their blood and property are guaranteed protection on my behalf except when justified by law, and their affairs rest with Allah.  “ Sunan Abu Dawood ; Book No 01; Ahadeeth no 33

By the way you were supposed to drive them out of the land because of a fault being done on their part or to kill them on being discovered after a due time yet you are assuming of a situation when they may accept Islam by fulfilling all the above duties and rituals of deen  e Islam in order to save their life? You only have a principal of Islam being not enforced on anyone, therefore how come you may compromise with your value in this situation and presume that someone will become a muslim just to save his/her life from the hands of muslims ? You are exhibiting your utter opportunism of making one accepting Islam using a circumstance. You should have not done this but since you did so, it’s a plain or a clear contradiction or a contradictory approach OR AN INDIRECT ENFORCEMENT OF ISLAM ON THE PAGANS. A plain hypocrisy is this.

;
Some of the muslims argue focusing the very next ayah (9:6) that its not the case which I am talking as it states that if anyone seeks protection should be granted the same and not be killed. But wait a minute, both 9:5 and 9:6 are depicting the two different situations or circumstances, hence appealing to 9:6 doesn’t work here.

Apart from this, we also have a case of apostates of Islam being killed which is contrary to no compulsion in religion. Let us see :-

“ Then what is the matter with you that you are divided into two parties about the hypocrites? Allah has cast them back (to disbelief) because of what they have earned. Do you want to guide him whom Allah has made to go astray? And he whom Allah has made to go astray, you will never find for him any way (of guidance).

They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected (Faith), and thus that you all become equal (like one another). So take not Auliya (protectors or friends) from them, till they emigrate in the Way of Allah (to Muhammad SAW). But if they turn back (from Islam), take (hold) of them and kill them wherever you find them, and take neither Auliya (protectors or friends) nor helpers from them.” Surah 4:88-89;Hilali- Khan

This short passage is talking about a few men who used to be the betrayers or double cross. They pretended to be the muslims but were hypocrites and Islamic deity is addressing the muslims in ayah 88 who were divided into two groups regarding these people. And in the verse 89 is speaking of taking those hypocrites as awaliyas or friends only after a genuine conversion of hearts of themselves. But if they again show their backs, they are to be killed.

If you talk of no compulsion in religion, then there must be an option to reject it as well which doesn’t seems to be meeting here. Even the prophet of Islam stated of apostates to be killed :-

“Narrated 'Abdullah: Allah's Apostle said, "The blood of a Muslim who confesses that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that I am His Apostle, cannot be shed except in three cases: In Qisas for murder, a married person who commits illegal sexual intercourse and the one who reverts from Islam (apostate) and leaves the Muslims."  Sahih Al Bukhari; Book No 83; Ahadith no 17

Some muslims might argue that 4:89 is only referring to a specific case which happened when these ayahs were revealed. But the authentic ahadith quoted above makes the things plain that apostates are to be killed. Notice they are not only to be killed for leaving the muslims but for committing apostasy as well.

Thus it is very explicit that on one hand, the Qur’an speaks gently of no compulsion in deen, unto you is your deen and unto me is mine yet also contradicts itself at other stances.

  1. Let us now move on to the second case. We read in the Qur’an that prophet of Islam, i.e Mohammad was sent by Allah or God into the world as a mercy for the whole of human race :-

And We have sent you (O Muhammad SAW) not but as a mercy for the Alameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists).” Surah 21:107; Hilali- Khan

Therefore, if I wanna attain the paradise or Jannah, I ought to accept Islam or be a muslim . Even we have listened it a tons of times that Qur’an is the final revelation and Mohammad is the seal of prophets (Surah 33:40) blah blah blah. Hence, if someone may bring faith on Mohammad, he/she will be a muslim/muslima and a follower of Islam which only will Allah accept on the day of judgment :-

And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.” Surah 3:85; Hilali-Khan

.          It reminds me of a lad from Bhopal (India) who endeavors his best to make me a muslim and speaks that I must stop worshiping Jesus and consider Him just a prophet only and in this way I won’t commit shirk or associate partners with God. I told him that his deity won’t accept Christianity or Judaism but only Islam. At this he says that all the other prophets (including Moses and Jesus) were muslims only and their deen was none other than Islam.

I though admire his concern for me yet at the same time pity on him too for he is unaware of his own faith and is interpreting the things on his own. In Surah 21:107 we read that the prophet of Islam is the mercy for the whole mankind which includes Muslims as well as the non muslims. Hence it leaves no room for any other religion being accepted by Allah but the deen of Mohammad. This gets even more clear from the following ahadith :-

“Narrated Jabir Ibn Abdullah: Umar ibn al-Khattab brought to Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) a copy of the Torah and said: Allah's Messenger, this is a copy of the Torah. He (Allah's  Messenger) kept quiet and he (Umar) began to read it. The (colour) of the face of Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) underwent a change, whereupon AbuBakr said: Would that your mother mourn you, don't you see the face of Allah's Messenger? Umar saw the face of Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) and said: I seek refuge with Allah from the  wrath of Allah and the wrath of His Messenger. We are well pleased with Allah as Lord, with Islam as religion, and with Muhammad as Prophet. Whereupon Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad, even if Moses were to appear before you and you were to follow him, leaving me aside, you would certainly stray into error; for if (Moses) were alive (now), and he found my prophetical ministry, he would have definitely followed me. Transmitted by Darimi.” Sahih Al-Tirmidhi Hadith No 194

Source :- http://ahnafexpose.com/nijaad_gangohi_ke_itebaah_par.html

He plainly stated :-

” By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad, even if Moses were to appear before you and you were to follow him, leaving me aside, you would certainly stray into error; for if (Moses) were alive (now), and he found my prophetical ministry, he would have definitely followed me.”

This implicates that Allah will only accept Islam, the religion of Mohammad for if Moses were living at the time of Mohammad, he had to follow the last and final messenger/prophet i.e Mohammad.

This gets even more clear by the following :-

“Narrated Ma'bad bin Hilal Al'Anzi: We, i.e., some people from Basra gathered and went to Anas bin Malik, and we went in company with Thabit Al-Bunnani so that he might ask him about the Hadith of Intercession on our behalf. Behold, Anas was in his palace, and our arrival coincided with his Duha prayer. We asked permission to enter and he admitted us while he was sitting on his bed. We said to Thabit, "Do not ask him about anything else first but the Hadith of Intercession." He said, "O Abu Hamza! There are your brethren from Basra coming to ask you about the Hadith of Intercession." Anas then said, "Muhammad talked to us saying, 'On the Day of Resurrection the people will surge with each other like waves, and then they will come to Adam and say, 'Please intercede for us with your Lord.' He will say, 'I am not fit for that but you'd better go to Abraham as he is the Khalil of the Beneficent.' They will go to Abraham and he will say, 'I am not fit for that, but you'd better go to Moses as he is the one to whom Allah spoke directly.' So they will go to Moses and he will say, 'I am not fit for that, but you'd better go to Jesus as he is a soul created by Allah and His Word.' (Be: And it was) they will go to Jesus and he will say, 'I am not fit for that, but you'd better go to Muhammad.' They would come to me and I would say, 'I am for that.' Then I will ask for my Lord's permission, and it will be given, and then He will inspire me to praise Him with such praises as I do not know now. So I will praise Him with those praises and will fall down, prostrate before Him. Then it will be said, 'O Muhammad, raise your head and speak, for you will be listened to; and ask, for your will be granted (your request); and intercede, for your intercession will be accepted.' I will say, 'O Lord, my followers! My followers!' And then it will be said, 'Go and take out of Hell (Fire) all those who have faith in their hearts, equal to the weight of a barley grain.' I will go and do so and return to praise Him with the same praises, and fall down (prostrate) before Him. Then it will be said, 'O Muhammad, raise your head and speak, for you will be listened to, and ask, for you will be granted (your request); and intercede, for your intercession will be accepted.' I will say, 'O Lord, my followers! My followers!' It will be said, 'Go and take out of it all those who have faith in their hearts equal to the weight of a small ant or a mustard seed.' I will go and do so and return to praise Him with the same praises, and fall down in prostration before Him. It will be said, 'O, Muhammad, raise your head and speak, for you will be listened to, and ask, for you will be granted (your request); and intercede, for your intercession will be accepted.' I will say, 'O Lord, my followers!' Then He will say, 'Go and take out (all those) in whose hearts there is faith even to the lightest, lightest mustard seed. (Take them) out of the Fire.' I will go and do so…...” Sahih Muslim; Book No 93; Ahadith no 601

Source :- http://www.searchtruth.com/book_display.php?
book=93&translator=1&start=127&number=592

So it is quite plain that muslims are the only followers of Mohammad and he will intercede for them only before Allah on the day of resurrection.

Hence, one ought to follow the Qur’an only if he/she wanna attain the Jannah or Paradise by being a muslim. Consequently we are supposed to find uniformity regarding the message of the Qur’an in this sphere.

But we find in Surah 5:48 that Allah is asking the Jews, the Christians and the Muslims to use their respective books to judge the various cases as well as for guidance . Let us see the whole context :-

How come they unto thee for judgment when they have the Torah, wherein Allah hath delivered judgment (for them) ? Yet even after that they turn away. Such (folk) are not believers.

Lo! We did reveal the Torah, wherein is guidance and a light, by which the prophets who surrendered (unto Allah) judged the Jews, and the rabbis and the priests (judged) by such of Allah's Scripture as they were bidden to observe, and thereunto were they witnesses. So fear not mankind, but fear Me. And My revelations for a little gain. Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed: such are disbelievers.

And We prescribed for them therein: The life for the life, and the eye for the eye, and the nose for the nose, and the ear for the ear, and the tooth for the tooth, and for wounds retaliation. But whoso forgoeth it (in the way of charity) it shall be expiation for him. Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed: such are wrong-doers.

And We caused Jesus, son of Mary, to follow in their footsteps, confirming that which was (revealed) before him in the Torah, and We bestowed on him the Gospel wherein is guidance and a light, confirming that which was (revealed) before it in the Torah - a guidance and an admonition unto those who ward off (evil).

Let the People of the Gospel judge by that which Allah hath revealed therein. Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed: such are evil-livers.

And unto thee have We revealed the Scripture with the truth, confirming whatever Scripture was before it, and a watcher over it. So judge between them by that which Allah hath revealed, and follow not their desires away from the truth which hath come unto thee. For each We have appointed a divine law and a traced-out way. Had Allah willed He could have made you one community. But that He may try you by that which He hath given you (He hath made you as ye are). So vie one with another in good works. Unto Allah ye will all return, and He will then inform you of that wherein ye differSurah 5:48; Pickthall

The key part of the passage is :-

For each We have appointed a divine law and a traced-out way. Had Allah willed He could have made you one community. But that He may try you by that which He hath given you (He hath made you as ye are). So vie one with another in good works. Unto Allah ye will all return, and He will then inform you of that wherein ye differ”

As what I read in the commentary of Ibn Khatir on this very passage, this was revealed when a group Jews came to the prophet of Islam with a case of adultery to be judged by him. Their sole intention was to trap him. He asked them about the prescribed ruling for adultery in the Torah to which they replied its flogging or whipping (something like that) but a certain muslim said that its stoning till death. Then he asked for the Torah to be bought and read openly and it was done. While reading, the Jew (who was reading from the Torah) deliberately hide the verses where stoning for adulterers was written and was caught hiding some thing. He was then asked to reveal what he was hiding and the actuality was revealed. The prophet of Islam then gave orders according to the Torah i.e stoning of those man and woman caught in adultery.

One can read the whole of story here :-

http://www.qtafsir.com/index.php?option=com_
content&task=view&id=776&Itemid=60

Despite of this, we can also find the Islamic prophet revering the Torah and recommending it to be used by the Jews :-

“Narrated Abdullah Ibn Umar: A group of Jews came and invited the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) to Quff. So he visited them in their school. They said: AbulQasim, one of our men has committed fornication with a woman; so pronounce judgment upon them. They placed a cushion for the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) who sat on it and said: Bring the Torah. It was then brought. He then withdrew the cushion from beneath him and placed the Torah on it saying: I believed in thee and in Him Who revealed thee. He then said: Bring me one who is learned among you. Then a young man was brought. The transmitter then mentioned the rest of the tradition of stoning similar to the one transmitted by Malik from Nafi'(No. 4431).” Sunan Abu Dawood; Book no 38; Hadith no 4434

Therefore if the Qur’an is the book to be followed in this era since :-

(1) Moses would have followed it if he were living at the time of Islamic prophet.

  1. The Qur’an was given to Mohammad who is the mercy for all mankind.(21:107)

  1. Allah will only accept the religion of Islam.(3:85)

…then why do we find Allah recommending the Jews and the Christians to use their respective scriptures thereby saying for them he has appointed separate laws and guidance in their respective books (5:43,47 and 5:48b) instead of the Qur’an  which is the final revelation meant for all mankind (21:107 and 3:85) ?

Well if the Qur’an is for the whole of human race, then we were not supposed to find the previous books to be recommended for any purpose for the Qur’an  supersedes them and is the latest and final revelation. Allah should have revealed in this way :-

Oh People of the book, bring faith on our messenger (Mohammad0 to whom we have appointed the mercy for all mankind and seek guidance and judgment from the book (the Qur’an) which we have revealed unto him. And whosoever do not heed to our commandments, he will be the evildoer and the looser in the hereafter.”

Its very unambiguous that Allah is asking the ahle qitaab to rely on their respective scriptures for he talks of the time when they (Jews and Christians) will return to him after their life on earth which is in clear contradiction to Islamic prophet being the mercy for all mankind and Islam be the only religion acceptable to Allah.

(3)  The third case is about rape OR WE CAN STATE IT IS ABOUT THE DIGNITY OF A WOMAN.. The Qur’an in a very plain manner forbids ravishing of a woman in one ayah yet also contradicts itself after 4 ayahs on this very subject. Let see the whole case :-

O ye who believe! It is not lawful for you forcibly to inherit the women (of your deceased kinsmen), nor (that) ye should put constraint upon them that ye may take away a part of that which ye have given them, unless they be guilty of flagrant lewdness. But consort with them in kindness, for if ye hate them it may happen that ye hate a thing wherein Allah hath placed much good.

And if ye wish to exchange one wife for another and ye have given unto one of them a sum of money (however great), take nothing from it. Would ye take it by the way of calumny and open wrong ?

How can ye take it (back) after one of you hath gone in unto the other, and they have taken a strong pledge from you ?

And marry not those women whom your fathers married, except what hath already happened (of that nature) in the past. Lo! it was ever lewdness and abomination, and an evil way.

Forbidden unto you are your mothers, and your daughters, and your sisters, and your father's sisters, and your mother's sisters, and your brother's daughters and your sister's daughters, and your foster-mothers, and your foster-sisters, and your mothers-in-law, and your step-daughters who are under your protection (born) of your women unto whom ye have gone in - but if ye have not gone in unto them, then it is no sin for you (to marry their daughters) - and the wives of your sons who (spring) from your own loins. And (it is forbidden unto you) that ye should have two sisters together, except what hath already happened (of that nature) in the past. Lo! Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.

And all married women (are forbidden unto you) save those (captives) whom your right hands possess. It is a decree of Allah for you. Lawful unto you are all beyond those mentioned, so that ye seek them with your wealth in honest wedlock, not debauchery. And those of whom ye seek content (by marrying them), give unto them their portions as a duty. And there is no sin for you in what ye do by mutual agreement after the duty (hath been done). Lo! Allah is ever Knower, Wise.”  Surah 4:19-24; Pickthall

The first of the sentences in bold speaks of not to take any woman by force and this is said in the sphere of wedding for we are informed by the Ibn Khatir and others :-

” (O you who believe! You are not permitted to inherit women against their will,) "Before, the practice was that when a man dies, his male relatives used to have the right to do whatever they wanted with his wife. If one of them wants, he would marry her, give her in marriage, or prevent her from marriage, for they had more right to her than her own family. Thereafter, this Ayah was revealed about this practice, (O you who believe! You are not permitted to inherit women against their will).'' Tafsir Ibn Khatir on 4:19

Source :-
http://www.qtafsir.com/index.php?option=com_
content&task=view&id=696&Itemid=59

This whole passage is dealing with the case of wedding or marriage.

Although it talks of the pre Islamic practice of behaving in bad way with a deceased man’s wife yet we get a clear implication of rape, i.e its forbidden since permission isn’t granted to forcibly inherit a woman which would be a rape only because they had the right to do whatsoever they wanted to do with the wife of a deceased man. In other words, its about a woman’s dignity. Hence Qur’an 4:19a  seems to be safeguarding the dignity of a woman.

Yet on the other hand we do find captive women being forced to have sexual intercourse or in the other words raped and this is what the background of following part of the above cited passage states :-

And all married women (are forbidden unto you) save those (captives) whom your right hands possess.”

Now let us have a view at the circumstance when this was revealed :-

” Allah said, (Also (forbidden are) women already married, except those whom your right hands possess.) The Ayah means, you are prohibited from marrying women who are already married, (except those whom your right hands possess) except those whom you acquire through war, for you are allowed such women after making sure they are not pregnant. Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri said, "We captured some women from the area of Awtas who were already married, and we disliked having sexual relations with them because they already had husbands. So, we asked the Prophet about this matter, and this Ayah was revealed, e (Also (forbidden are) women already married, except those whom your right hands possess). Consequently, we had sexual relations with these women.'' This is the wording collected by At-Tirmidhi An-Nasa'i, Ibn Jarir and Muslim in his Sahih.” Tafsir Ibn Khatir

It is such a disgusting way to degrade the holy relationship of marriage, i.e having sex with a woman is termed as marriage in the above passage in the light of the circumstance when this was revealed. Notice it talks of an after war scene when the married ladies of the opponents were captured by the muslims. This incident is discussed in even more detail in the following ahadith :-

“Abu Sirma said to Abu Sa'id al Khadri (Allah he pleased with him): 0 Abu Sa'id, did you hear Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) mentioning al-'azl? He said: Yes, and added: We went out with Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) on the expedition to the Bi'l-Mustaliq and took captive some excellent Arab women; and we desired them, for we were suffering from the absence of our wives, (but at the same time) we also desired ransom for them. So we decided to have sexual intercourse with them but by observing 'azl (Withdrawing the male sexual organ before emission of semen to avoid-conception). But we said: We are doing an act whereas Allah's Messenger is amongst us; why not ask him? So we asked Allah's Mes- senger (may peace be upon him), and he said: It does not matter if you do not do it, for every soul that is to be born up to the Day of Resurrection will be born.” Sahih Muslim; Book No 08; Ahadith No 3371

The muslim men imprisoned those women and made them captives and were desiring to have sexual intercourse with them for they were getting erections and could not satisfy their lust being away from their wives. So in order to quench their thirst, they wished to copulate with those captive women and  also demanded a price to be paid for setting them free from their captivity. The prophet of Islam validated this act of muslims as he allowed them to have intercourse with those women.

If that is not a rape, then I don’t  know what it can be termed as for no imprisoned or a captive woman would permit you for a  coitus engagement with herself OF HER OWN FREE WILL. And the same is what is depicted in the incidence discussed in the aforementioned ahadith where women were treated as sex dolls to satisfy the lust of sex hungers.

So on hand the Qur’an talks of safeguarding the dignity of women (4:19) yet after 4 ayahs it makes them as sex dolls meant for quenching lust thus contradicting itself.

We have discovered 3 contradictions in the book which claims itself being from God and free of contradictions (4:82). Hence the Qur’an falls flat on its own standard of being from the Almighty since it contains at least three contradictions discussed above and cannot be from God.
