Proclaim the Truth, Defend the Truth, Live the Truth

Is this Quran?

By Justin Joseph

Koran or Quran is known as God’s revelation to the Mohammed… It is the holy book of Islam. Muslims consider it as their Holy Book. So for educational purposes, I started to read Quran and these are my conclusion of Surah 2

About Scriptures
2:53-Recall that we gave Moses scripture and the statute book, that you may be guided
About Israel2:87-We gave Moses the scripture, and subsequent to him we sent other messengers…
In these verses it is clear that Quran agrees the book of Moses as God inspired Book. From other verses (5:44,68)we can see Bible is given by “Allah”. Let us look whether Quran (Surah 2) says Bible is corrupted or not...
2:75-Do you expect them to believe as you do, when some of them used to hear the word of GOD, then distort it, with full understanding thereof, and deliberately?
From this verse many say that Quran says Bible has corrupted. If you look this verse or the context, it is not at all saying about the Christians or Jews. And if we clearly read the verse, it is says, some people distorted the word of God what they heard. So it is not all saying about the Bible which is written and preserved.
2:79-Therefore, woe to those who distort the scripture with their own hands, then say, "This is what GOD has revealed," seeking a cheap material gain. Woe to them for such distortion and woe to them for their illicit gains.
In this verse too, it is not mentioned about Bible or Quran. In Quran’s perspective, this can be mean to both Bible and Quran. Because this verse says people distorted what God has revealed with their own hands. If Muslims say Bible is distorted, from this verse, they should also say that Quran also is distorted. Since they wont agree that, it cant mean Bible is corrupted or distorted
2:89-When this scripture came to them from GOD, and even though it agrees with, and confirms what they have…
In this verse it is speaking about the Quran that it confirms all previous scriptures. The meaning of confirm id “establish more firmly”. So in from this verse it is clear that Quran’s purpose was to Establish Bible!  (In Surah 5:68 Quran asks Christians to follow what is there in their hand which is revealed by God. It is Bible. Thereby Quran says entire Bible is the word of “Allah”)

About Israel
2:40- O Children of Israel, remember My favor, which I bestowed upon you, and fulfill your part of the covenant, that I fulfill My part of the covenant, and reverence Me.
2:47-O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I bestowed upon you, and that I blessed you more than any other people.
2:122-O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I bestowed upon you, and that I blessed you more than any other people.
In these verses it is clear that Quran too says Israelites are specially chosen people by God. But still I have seen many Muslims who questions Bible that why God chose them in special way and so. The Quran too tells the same thing. So I request such Muslims to read your Quran by understanding rather than studying it without any understanding.

About messengers
[2:285] The messenger has believed in what was sent down to him from his Lord, and so did the believers. They believe in GOD, His angels, His scripture, and His messengers: "We make no distinction among any of His messengers." They say, "We hear, and we obey. Forgive us, our Lord. To You is the ultimate destiny." From this verse, Allah says He doesn’t have any special consideration to any messengers. But often Muslims say Muhammad is the great prophet and they give more importance to him than others... Why?? If we look the names of Muslims it is clear that the no. of the Muslims having the name of Mohammed is very high than other messengers in Quran. Why Muslims are giving more importance to Mohammed while “Allah” doesn’t do it?

About Jesus
[2:87] We gave Moses the scripture, and subsequent to him we sent other messengers, and we gave Jesus, son of Mary, profound miracles and supported him with the Holy Spirit. Is it not a fact that every time a messenger went to you with anything you disliked, your ego caused you to be arrogant? Some of them you rejected, and some of them you killed.
[2:253] These messengers; we blessed some of them more than others. For example, GOD spoke to one, and we raised some of them to higher ranks. And we gave Jesus, son of Mary, profound miracles and supported him with the Holy Spirit.
In these verses, Quran says 2 special qualities of Jesus which Mohammed didn't do. First one is He is strengthened with Holy Spirit. We can’t see such a description about any prophets in the Quran (personally). The Second one is He did many miracles. Quran also admits that Mohammed was a common man, who doesn’t have ability to do miracles. But Jesus was not so. He was strengthened with Holy Spirit and did many miracles.

About Christians
[2:62] Surely, those who believe, those who are Jewish, the Christians, and the converts; anyone who (1) believes in GOD, and (2) believes in the Last Day, and (3) leads a righteous life, will receive their recompense from their Lord. They have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.
The Christians who believe in God, believes the Day of Judgment and they lives righteously will not grieve. In other words, if Christians do these things they will go to paradise! So Quran assures Heaven to the Christians who live well.
2:121     Those to whom We have sent the Book study it as it should be studied: They are the ones that believe therein: Those who reject faith therein,- the loss is their own.
Here “To whom We have sent the Book” means Christians and Jews, and the Quran asks them to study it. And then the Quran says “they are the one that believe therein, who reject the faith therein, the loss is their own” directly says that the Christians to believe in Christianity itself... Quran also says that who leaves the Christianity, they will become losers. What will happen if one live Christianity and join in Islam? This verse is an answer to it. The answer is “he will lose”! So Quran asks Christians to not leave Christianity….

Fighting for Allah
2:190-Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loveth not transgressors. And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them
2:244-Then fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah hearth and knoweth all things.
It is clear that Quran asks Muslims to fight for Allah, if one fights with you. In the first verse which I quoted above, it is clear that if one comes and fight with a Muslim, what Quran says is that, go and kill Him!! But what Bible says is that “But I say unto you, that ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.”(Mathew 5:39). Often Muslims say Islam is the religion of peace. And I don’t understand what peace have they meant!!

Right of Wives
Often Muslims say against Bible that Christian wives don’t have equal right as Men and all.. Let us look what Quran (Sura 2) says-2:228-
And women shall have rights similar to the rights against them, according to what is equitable; but men have a degree (of advantage) over them. And Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise
This verse clearly says men have more power than women. In Quran men are allowed to marry 4 women. Since it is not said in this chapter, I am not going in that. And in this chapter there is another verse which says how Quran considers a “wife”
2:223- Your wives are as a TILTH unto you; so approach your TILTH when or how ye will; but do some good act for your souls beforehand; and fear Allah. And know that ye are to meet Him (in the Hereafter) and give (these) good tidings to those who believe.
Here it says wives are tilth/farmland.!! The next sentence (and other translations) makes it clear that wives are the bearers of the seed!! So in the perspective of Quran, women are made to carry the “seeds” of men!! This will be enough to understand the value given to the Wives by Quran.

In this chapter, I read 2 distinct characteristics of Allah
2:192- But if they cease, Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
Here we can see Allah as most forgiving. Or, when people do a sin and if they ask forgiveness, Allah will forgives the sin and He will not do the punishment on us. Look 2:196
2:196- And fear Allah, and know that Allah is strict in punishment
This verse says Allah is strict in punishment. Strict means “precisely limited or defined, undeviating”. That means Allah will be undeviating in punishment In other words, Allah will not change his decision. So what is the meaning of first verse which I quoted??? In one verse, Allah will change punishment and in another Allah will not change punishment!! A clear contradiction!

Scientific error
2:164-Behold! in the creation of the Heavens and the Earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the RAIN WHICH ALLAH SENDS DOWN FROM THE SKIES, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, AND THE CLOUDS WHICH THEY TRAIL LIKE THEIR SLAVES BETWEEN THE SKY AND THE EARTH; (here) indeed are Signs for a people that are wise.
In this verse we can see rains are coming from the skies. If I say only that, Muslim will say that Clouds are situated in sky so this verse is correct. But when we read further, we can see that clouds are situated between sky and earth. It shows that sky is somewhere above than the clouds, and thus it shows that rain is coming from somewhere above the clouds... It is a clear scientific error

Error2:113     The Jews say: "The Christians have naught (to stand) upon; and the Christians say: "The Jews have naught (To stand) upon." Yet they (Profess to) study the (same) Book. Like unto their word is what those say who know not; but Allah will judge between them in their quarrel on the Day of Judgment
If we read carefully, we can understand that in this verse, Quran is saying that Jews and Christians believe the same book. It is a clear error. All knows that Jews don’t believe in the New Testament. So the claim of Quran is wrong. Some Muslims may say that in this verse Quran says they PROFESS TO study the same book and Quran is not saying that they are same. Then too, there will be a problem. That is, Jews or Christians don’t say that we believe in same book... If Muslims argue that Jews and Christians believe in Old Testament, and Quran is saying about it, it is also wrong. This verse says Christian say that Jews are wrong, and Jews say Christians are wrong from the same book. It is not correct. Christians says Jews are wrong because they don’t accept New Testament. In other words, Christians says Jews are wrong because Christians study (believe) New Testament too.. This verse is against the truth... So it must account an error...
